Welcome to Community Kids Pre-School & After-School Club

Here at Community Kids we offer a range of opportunities for all children to explore, develop and prepare for School. We do this through lots of play incorporated with child and adult led activities.

All children have access to all toys and equipment in the building. But being different ages we ensure different age appropriate activities and help are provided. For the 2 year olds we are able to do nappies, aid them in toilet training, alongside parents and if they need a little sleep, create a cozy little area for them to rest.

The 3 year olds, being the middle age of the preschool, are able to mix with both the younger and older ages. This means they have a real variety in groups to play with, friends to make and activities they can join in with.

For the 4 year olds, children who will soon go to school ‘Rising 4’s’, We focus on those all important hand and finger muscles by doing ‘Funky Fingers’ where they have activities like using tweezers to catch the pompom, dough gym (play dough to music), threading and exercises for gross and fine motor skills. Dressing and undressing is also a great way to test the finger muscles. We are located next to Bruton Primary School and have fantastic links with them. This helps the children become familiar and comfortable in the school environment supporting their transitions.

As an extra addition we currently offer hot meals for the children which are supplied by Sexeys school just up the road, you can also supply a packed lunch if you prefer.

We also have a Breakfast club and Afterschool club for children aged 2-11. We collect them from Bruton primary school and bring them back to Community Kids, or in the summer term if the weather is nice we stay on the school field to let them run after a busy day.

Most importantly we pride ourselves on enthusiastic and caring staff who offer a welcoming, safe and friendly setting for all children and families. Our children are happy, busy, and stimulated. They love being here and come racing in through the door!

Our Daily Routine

See how a typical day is structured.

On a Wednesday we have a 2 hr session from 9.30-11.30 of Forest school over in the school grounds, this is run by Kate Hathway who is local to Bruton. We explore all things forest school in rain or shine, we especially love the mud kitchens and cooking around the fire. We talk every session about the rules of forest school and how we keep our selves safe from those things like stinging nettles and red ants that are forever present.

During the summer term the Rising 4’s have water confidence lesson using the swimming pool over at the primary school next door.

Our link with the primary school is strong and we have access to the school grounds for our play times, where we can use the climbing frame, run around the track and enjoy the school field.
